Frustrating Air Hockey iPhone

My fifth app is now available (for free) on the iPhone App Store!
Download Frustrating Air Hockey

It's a free Air Hockey app with your choice of pushers or paddles!
As with Frustrating Tic Tac Toe, the AI Types are:
  • Frustrating
  • Random
  • Cheating
Frustrating AI is the ultimate test of your Air Hockey playing ability. Actually, I think it's just Impossible to beat, let me know if you can beat this AI!

Random AI puts up a good challenge. Not quite frustrating.

Cheating AI breaks the rules! It will get all up in your side of the court, but what YOU can do is pick up and drag the puck into your opponent's goal! Who's cheating now?

Frustrating Air Hockey is available now (for free) for iPhone and iPod Touch!

Update on Updates!

I've been busy working instead of blogging lately!
So here's the latest news:

February 18th - DOTNUKE 1.1 Launched!
The new update makes the screen / game play area larger. I did this at the expense of in-app referrals to my other games, so we'll see if this affects downloads at all. Realistically, I'm more concerned about people finding out about DOTNUKE than people finding out about my other (more successful) apps through DOTNUKE!

February 23rd - Zombie Puncher 1.2 Launched!
The new update includes 'continues', so now if you click an ad or quit the game at any time, you can choose to resume from the round where you left off. Thanks to Simon for the suggestion! I also cleaned up my code / memory handling significantly, and haven't heard any complaints about bugs - so this is a good sign!

February 27th - DOTNUKE Review by Adam 'Holmfry' Holmes
Adam Holmes, developer of the Xbox Indie Games title Pixel Whirled, wrote a very nice review of DOTNUKE, you can read it here!

That's all the big news lately over here in Kenny's Apps Land, but stay tuned - I'll be releasing a fifth app very soon!

Meet Michael Kwan

I've been meaning to post about a wonderful, artistic game that came out of this year's Global Game Jam. Allow me to introduce: The Sun Always Lies

This game was made by my good friend Michael Kwan and his team.
Do you have a PC? Download and play The Sun Always Lies for free!

We often take light, the sun, and our ability to see for granted. But in The Sun Always Lies, you must rely on the rain to determine what's real in the game world. The game fit this year's Global Game Jam theme of 'Deception' perfectly, as well as the Albany area sub-category of 'Rain'.

Michael Kwan is a game designer who currently works with 1st Playable Productions, but he and I first met when we were both design co-op students at Vicarious Visions. Today, Michael is often my go-to design consultant. We bounce ideas off of each other, and help each other make the best games possible!

Michael's feedback has made its way into two of my shipped iPhone titles:

In Number Guesser Deluxe, it was Michael's idea to calculate a Win Probability before each guess: the likelihood that you will win on your next guess.

Your Win Probabilities for each guess factor into your overall high score, or Luck Rating. Did you notice Kwan's name as a default on the leaderboard?

Michael also gave me excellent feedback for DOTNUKE, a game which in fact originated from a mini Game Jam he and I had one weekend, just between the two of us, for fun!

After I made the core game, it was Michael's idea that, once your DOTNUKE grows large enough to fill the screen, its color becomes the new background color when the game resets. In retrospect, this one feature I think is critical to DOTNUKE in adding a sense of persistence and closure to each game session, I can't imagine that the game would feel complete without it!

Bottom line, Michael Kwan is an incredibly talented game designer and a great friend. I'll keep you posted on all his latest projects!
